There are several excellent museums in St. Petersburg. When you go there, you should visit at least one of them.

The State Hermitage Museum is huge. It is almost mandatory to visit there at least during your first visit to St. Petersburg. There are more than three million artifacts from different eras starting from the prehistoric art of ending at the current times. Location on Google map here.

The Russian Museum has the world's largest collection of Russian art. The collections includes icon art, the world's best seascape painter Ivan Aivazovsky's works, landscapes by Isaac Levitan and works of Ilya Repin, Wassily Kandinsky and Kazimir Malevich.
